In this era of ‘fake news’, the shadowy cyber social world, too, is rampant with fraud and fakery. Backgrounds and profile pictures are virtually abducted from social pages, then morphed into ‘bots’ posing as artificial users and systematically sold by the thousands - instant booster shots for those vying for virtual status, whether to become insta-famous ‘influencers’, and reap the rewards of tweeting or posting an endorsement on behalf of a big brand, or that brand simply willing to dope up likes.
Facebook alone is reported to host as many as 60 million automated, bogus accounts at the end of 2017. The good news is you don’t have to be the Biebs or Obama to strategically and actively grow a healthy social currency base of followers. And the obvious upside is a community of humans who actually like what you have to say or sell.
